Obituary of Elmer McClune
Please share a memory of Elmer to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Elmer "Roger" McClune, 91 years of age, passed away on Sunday March 11, 2012 at The Skilled Nursing Center at Silver Lake after a long illness.
Elmer, also referred to as “Mac” or “Roger”, was born on June 3, 1920 and grew up in Mount Hope New Jersey. He earned an associate’s degree after graduating from high school and enlisted in the United States Army during WWII. In 1950 he married the now deceased Alfreda "Freda" Baker from Carthage North Carolina. Roger was an executive in the eye glass industry until he retired in the late 1980's and they moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He enjoyed playing golf, tennis and was an avid sports fan. However, one of his greatest joys was cheering for and following his son's and grandchildren's endeavors over the years. In 2002 he moved to Pembroke Ma. to live with his son Jeffrey and his family.
Roger was the beloved and proud father of five boys: Michael McClune (deceased) of Virginia Beach Va., Barry McClune and his wife Jennifer of Charlottesville Va., Jeffrey McClune and his wife Joanne of Pembroke Ma., Gregory McClune of Stoughton Ma. and David McClune of Virginia Beach Va. He is also survived by his six loving grandchildren: Matthew and Mitchell McClune of Pembroke Ma, Macaila and Aiden McClune of Charlottesville Va., Mark McClune of Virginia Beach Va. and Andrew Eby of Suffolk Va.
A special thank you to the staff of The Skilled Nursing Care Center at Silver Lake for the wonderful care they gave to our Pop over the last six years as well as The Cranberry Hospice for making his final weeks comfortable with their loving and expert care.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at The First Church in Pembroke, on Sunday April 29 at 1:00 PM. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to: Cranberry Area Hospice, 36 Cordage Park Circle, Suite 326, Plymouth, MA 02360.
