Mrs. Gassett was the heart and soul of the Holmes Public Library. She gave me my library card when I was 6 and guided my reading choices because she knew my interests. She helped me write every term paper I was ever assigned at Silver Lake High School. She gave the children of Halifax something to do in the summer by providing summer reading programs for them. I loved getting stickers for every book I read on the summer reading chart!!! I believe she received a letter of acknowledgment from the widow of Martin Luther King for devotion to this program. My sister loved walking into a library that had a sign that said No Silence. The library under her tour of duty was a joyous place of learning. Children were encouraged to play and learn. It was meeting place for book lovers to chat and talk about what they were reading. Mrs. Gassett will be greatly missed.

Mr. and Mrs. Gassett have always been in my thoughts when I think of Halifax, a sentiment I'm sure I share with all the Binns family as we offer our condolences. As personal friends of our parents and as redoubtable public stewards in their respective realms, they were always models to me. And if Mrs. Gassett's cheerful guidance of this Cub Scout in the 1950s was a lost cause, her dedication to books has always resonated most deeply with me, as it did for our mother who took us to the library weekly from infancy and who served 15 years as a trustee, and with my sister, who worked there.

Inez will be missed. I have alot of happy memories that I have shared with my family when Inez and I would venture out. Inez would talk me into buying an outfit when we went to Joubert's in Whitman.

Received a call from Fred last night making us aware of your loss. Our Thoughts and Prayers are with you at this time. Brings back the memories of the good times we had with your Mother and Father when they came to the cape and invited us to Dinner each year. We know how proud they were of their wonderful family , May they rest in PEACE.

Mrs. Gassett gave me my first job at the library during my high school years. Her passion for the library was instilled in me and I am now passing it onto my daughters.
I think of her often and how wonderful she was. My sympathies to her family!
