Obituary of Walter Ronald Benoit Jr.
Walter R. Benoit
May 4, 1948 – February 3, 2025
Walter R. Benoit, 76, of Middleborough, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Monday, February 3rd, 2025. He was the loving husband, cherished best friend, and soulmate of Linda (Cobb) Benoit, with whom he shared 48 remarkable years filled with love and laughter.
Born and raised in Brockton, Massachusetts, Walter was the son of the late Walter and Marolyn (Sargent) Benoit. He graduated from Brockton High School in 1966 before proudly and honorably serving his country in the U.S. Army, completing two tours in Vietnam.
Following his service, Walter had a long and varied career, starting as a mechanic at J&A Auto, a counter salesman at Brest Auto in Brockton, then as a painter for Brophy and Philips. He was the Facility Maintenance Supervisor at Haemonetics in Braintree for 30 years, where he was known for his relentless work ethic and dependability.
Walter eventually found his true passion in Law Enforcement as a Special Police Officer, starting in Taunton and Middleborough and concluding with 38 years of service to the town of Carver, where he lived with the love of his life, Linda, for 42 years.
When Walter was not working, he dedicated his time to friends and family. If someone needed an extra hand, they knew they could depend on Walter. He especially enjoyed working on projects with his lifelong, dearest friends, Jack and Jim Daly.
On the rare occasion Walter was not working, he could be found on the golf course or playing cards with the guys. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Walter is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Linda (Cobb) Benoit; daughter Anita Doll and her husband, John, of Carver, MA; daughter Joy Smith and her husband, Jordan, of Hawaii; son Russell Oliveira of Commerce, GA; and his siblings, Irene O’Donnell and her husband, Steven, of Brockton, MA; Joseph (Joe) and his wife, Eileen, of Merrimack, NH; Michael (Mike) and his wife, Sandra Whitman, of Knoxville, TN; Norman of Middleborough, MA; Robert (Bob) and his partner, Sharon, of Knoxville, TN; the late Stanley Benoit, and his wife, Elizabeth (Betty), of Brockton, MA.
