Obituary of Esther E. Walker

Esther E. Walker died at the home of her daughter and son-in-law on December 6 after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert E. Walker, II. She was the youngest daughter of Carl and Amanda Blomstrom of Readville. She leaves her daughter, Evelyn A. Walker and son-in-law Norman P. Kendall of Duxbury, granddaughter Maria Victoria Cilveti of Montour Falls, N.Y. and granddaughter Meena T. Jahi and great granddaughter Amali I. Jahi of Brooklyn, N.Y., step-grandchildren Kevin Kendall of Waltham, Katherine Kendall and Kristin Kendall Shreeve of Mesa, Arizona, Kimberly Kendall of Irondequoit, N.Y., and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mrs. Walker was born on October 1, 1911, in Islington and was a graduate of Hyde Park High School and the Faulkner Hospital School of Nursing. In addition to working for many years at Jordan Hospital she performed private duty nursing in the area. She came to Duxbury upon her marriage in 1941, and over the years was active in many community organizations including Pilgrim Church, the PTA Thrift Shop, The Art Complex Museum where she served as a docent, the Viking Club of Braintree, and the Duxbury Senior Center. She enjoyed many Elderhostel classes here and abroad. She loved gardening, walking, clamming, many kinds of needlework, watercolor sketching and most recently, woodcarving. She was noted for her “green” lifestyle long before the term was coined. A service of celebration and remembrance will take place on Saturday, January 7, at Pilgrim Church, Duxbury, at 2 p.m. Interment in Mayflower Cemetery is private. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the Wildlands Trust of Southeastern Massachusetts, P.O. Box 2282, Duxbury MA 02331.
