Obituary of Rosamond Thompson

Rosamond (Roz) Randall Higgins Thompson died on April 19, 2013. Roz was born in Boston on January 14, 1920 to the late Wilbur Warren Higgins and Gertrude Elizabeth (Murphy) Higgins. She was married to the late Ralph Emerson Thompson, Jr. Roz was a graduate of The Winsor School where she remained an active alumna. During World War II she managed the Personal Book Shop in Boston, worked as a wholesale interior decorator, worked at several antique stores in Boston and Duxbury, several clothing stores in Duxbury and with two other partners had a gift shop in Duxbury. Having summered in Duxbury since the mid-50s, Roz and her husband "T" moved from Boston to Duxbury full time in 1972. With a passion for giving back to the community she volunteered at the Talking Information Center, the Duxbury Thrift Shop, the Duxbury Free Library and Cranberry Hospice’s Festival of Trees. Roz also served as a producer for the local cable channel's "Professionally Speaking". Having learned to speak French before English, she passed on her love of the language by teaching conversational French to others. For over forty years the Thompsons' King Caesar Road lawn was the setting for the Jordan Hospital Club's annual fund raiser. She was a member of The Vincent Club and The Duxbury Yacht Club and was a very active volunteer in various roles throughout her involvement in both organizations. Fondly (and variously) referred to as either “T’s Pub and Inn” or “Liberty Hall”, Roz and T’s home was welcoming to 2- and 4-legged strays of all kinds. Their door was always open for friends and neighbors, but especially for the many young people who considered Roz to be their “second mother”. Roz is survived by her daughter, Deborah (Squeakie) Higgins Thompson of Duxbury as well as three nieces (Sandra and Diana Marto of California; Emily Marto Tighe of Duxbury); and two nephews (Ralph Marto of Medfield and Harris Thompson of Easthampton). A memorial service will be held on May 23, 2013 at 3:00 pm at the First Parish Church in Duxbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made for Geriatric Services at The Jordan Hospital, Philanthropy Office, 275 Sandwich Street, Plymouth, MA 02360
