Please share a memory of Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edward J. Finn, Sr., age 86, passed away on February 16, 2014, after complications of a fall he took at home in Duxbury, MA.
He was the loving husband of Jean C. Finn and proud father of five children, and nine grandchildren. He grew up in Bethlehem, PA and was the oldest of seven. He received a full scholarship from Brown University (’49) and became one of the schools most prolific quarterbacks in Brown history. According to the Brown Hall of Fame, “he was the premiere passer in Brown football history and set all of Brown’s passing records during his four-year varsity career. A quarter of a century after his last game, Finn still holds the Brown career record for the most yards gained (2,286) and touchdown passes (28) and the single-season record for touchdown tosses with 13. A quiet and unassuming person off the field, he had his best season in his senior season where he completed 47 of 102 passes for 917 yards and 13 touchdowns. In the national all star game, Finn passed for two touchdowns as the North defeated the South in the annual Blue-Gray All Star game.” He was a two time All American and was approached by numerous NFL football clubs.
In his professional life, he began his career in the FBI as a special agent under J. Edgar Hoover working in Washington D.C. After five years, he moved into management areas of various regional companies in and around Boston. In the late 1970’s, he worked for Digital Equipment Corporation running the worldwide computer maker’s corporate real estate, aviation, security, and transportation divisions. After Digital, Mr. Finn went on to become Executive Vice President of Fidelity Investments as President of FMR Properties who ran Fidelity Investments international corporate real estate division for 13 years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jean Carberry Finn and his five children, Jennifer Finn of Berwyn, PA, Leslie Finn of Geneva, Switzerland, Jean Krug of Davenport, IA, Edward Finn, Jr. of Cohasset, MA, and Daniel Finn of Mooresville, NC.
