Obituary of Joseph Toy

1964-2014. Joseph E Toy, 49 of Winslow, passed away peacefully March 30, 2014 at Inland Hospital . He was born August 4, 1964, in Somerville MA, to Lucy and Edwin Toy. He grew up in the Plymouth-Carver MA area and attended Plymouth-Carver Regional High School but later graduated proudly from Waterville High School at the age of 34. He worked as a manager for Purity Supreme Grocery store, as a telemarketer, and later worked at The Big Apple in Waterville for many years. Joe moved to Maine in the early 1990's. He always said Maine was his home. Joe loved people and quickly made friends for life in Maine, friends who would be like family to him. He was always present at the McIver family holidays , weddings, births, dinners and get-togethers. Joe never missed a party, even the kids birthday parties. He loved children and made sure his friends and family's children got Christmas and birthday money, even if it meant he went without. Joe called friends and family daily to say "hello" and let them know he was thinking of them. He was a lifelong Red Sox, Bruins and Patriots fan. He loved to watch the games with his friend John, and he made it to Fenway for his first Yankees vs. Red Sox game with his friend Katherine, in 2008. He always would recall the day as the "best day of his life". No one ever saw Joe without his Red Sox hat or Patriots T-shirt on. He loved to play poker, drink iced coffee, and listen to Meatloaf; and he had the best sense of humor. He lived a colorful life , which sometimes found him down and out, but never made Joe bitter. Life for Joe was all about other people . If he had one last dollar and you needed it, it was yours. Joe had an amazing memory, and could list off every president and the year they were in office. He loved history. Joe was a soft spoken man who was never quick to anger and honest to a fault. A man of faith who prayed and believed in God. A man of morals and values that are hard to come by in today's world. Joe will be missed by so many. He left footprints on everyone's heart he met ; his sisters Bernice, Josephine, Janet and Brenda Lee; his father who he talked to every day on the phone ; many nieces and nephews ; and friends John, Albert, Shami, the McIver family and his absolute best friend for 23 years Katherine. Joe represents how life should be lived. To love unconditionally, to give yourself effortlessly, to forgive faithfully and to laugh until your sides hurt. No one will ever wonder how much Joe loved us and appreciated us, because he made sure to say it every day. This is the lesson we all take from Joe. We were blessed to know him. May you rest in peace our brother, son, uncle and friend. Calling hours will be held in Joseph's home town at Shepherd Funeral Home, 116 Main St. Carver MA on Saturday April 12, 2014 from 12-4pm with a prayer service at 4pm. A graveside service will also be held later in the spring, as he is laid to rest alongside his mother, Lucy in Plymouth MA.
