Obituary of Mary Theoda Madden

Mary Theoda Madden, age 97, of Kingston, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, on Friday, February 20, 2015, at Wingate at Silver Lake in Kingston. She was born on February 2, 1918 in Lincoln, Nebraska, the daughter of the late David Erickson formerly of Lincoln, Nebraska, and the late Vivien Lonam. Theo graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1940, and went on to study art at the Chicago Institute of Art. Theo met her future husband, John, while doing portraits of servicemen during World War II. They married and moved around the country eventually settling in Natick, Massachusetts. Theo was a homemaker, artist, worked for Jordan Marsh Company and was a member of the Saint Linus Sodality. Upon retirement, she and John moved to Duxbury, where she enjoyed life and was involved in church activities at Saint Thecla's Church in Pembroke. After John's passing in 2004, Theo subsequently moved to Kingston, where she became a communicant of Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Kingston. She was predeceased by her husband, John. She is survived by her daughter, Mary of Oakland, California; her son, Mike of Cape Cod; her son, Steve of Toronto, Canada; her grandson, John J of Cape Cod; her half-sister, Kay Daly of San Pedro, California and many nieces and nephews. There will be no visiting hours. Her funeral Mass will be held at Saint Joseph's Church, 272 Main Street, (Route 106), Kingston, on Thursday, February 26, 2015, at 9:00 AM. Interment services will be private at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. In lieu of flowers, donations in Theo's memory may be made to Saint Joseph's Church, 272 Main Street, Kingston, MA 02364.
