John Duffy, Jr, 98, of Halifax, and Ft. Myers, FL, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2015. Beloved husband of Mavis Duffy of Halifax, as well as his first wife, the late, Katharine (Huber) Duffy. Loving father to Elizabeth (Mimi) Kozak of Pembroke, John (Jed) E. Duffy of Carver, and Geoffrey (Bob) R. Duffy of Plympton. Son of the late John and Elizabeth (Sarvis) Duffy. Brother of Richard Duffy of KY, and the late Owen Duffy and the late Margaret Knott. Cherished grandfather of Holly Rudnik of Carver, Melanie Curran of Bourne, Kristina Kozak of CT, John E. Duffy, Jr. of Plymouth, and Kelsey Duffy of Wareham, and great grandfather to David and Rachael Curran, Samantha, Katelin, and Sarah Rudnik, and Alice and Jack Duffy. Mr. Duffy is also survi
ved by
several nieces and nephews, as well as his extended family and friends.
John received a B.S. degree in General Agriculture in 1940 from Ohio University. After a stint of 3 1/2 years in the Army Air Corp during WWII, he returned to earn his Masters Degree in Horticulture from Ohio State University. In 1942 he married Katharine S. Huber and they moved their family to Halifax where he took the position as General Manager of the Halifax Garden Co. John built and operated the Halifax Car Wash and later accepted a position at Norfolk County Extension Service as a Horticultural Specialist. Mr. Duffy has held many public offices in Halifax. He was a member and past President of Halifax Kiwanis, Wampatuck Lodge, Halifax VFW, Historical Society, Farmers Club, and the Halifax Congregational Church.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 28th at 11:00 AM at the Halifax Congregational Church located on Plymouth St. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: The Alzheimer's Assoc., Village South Plaza, 472 South St West, Unit 13, Raynham, MA 02767 or Beacon Hospice, 32 Resnick Rd, Plymouth, MA 02360.
