Obituary of Genevieve A. Deming

Genevieve Alpha Deming (Kirslis), passed away peacefully on May 16, 2015 at the age of 93. She was the beloved wife of the late Gordon Wolcott Deming and sister of the late Dr. S. Stanley Kirslis. She leaves her loving daughter Kathleen Keenan Snow of Duxbury, Provincetown, and St. Barthelemy; son-in-law Christopher J. Snow, Esq., of Provincetown; her nephews Craig, John and Steven Kirslis; her niece Ann Kirslis, and two grand nephews and one grand niece. Mrs. Deming was born in Bridgewater, to Stanley J. Kirslis, and Anna R. Kirslis, who had immigrated to America from Lithuania during the Russian Revolution. She and her brother were raised in Bridgewater where she graduated from Bridgewater High School. "Gen" went on to graduate from Bridgewater State Teachers College with a B.S. in Education. Her first teaching assignment was with the Arlington school system. She took a position with American Airlines in their Boston office where she met and subsequently married her first husband, the late Frederick M. Keenan, Jr. They moved to Duxbury from Boston in 1950 where they purchased the home she has lived in since that time. Mrs. Deming taught second and fourth grades in the Duxbury school system for many years. After her divorce and upon retiring from teaching she met and married Mr. Deming. They had 37 wonderful years together, sharing their interests and love of traveling, antiques, gardening, and the many friends they cultivated along the way. They enjoyed traveling throughout Europe, vacationing on Saint Barthelemy, and exhibiting at antique shows throughout New England and along the East Coast. She also adored her beloved Shih Tzu, Olivier, her companion for 15 years. She was the most devoted daughter, wife, and mother anyone could ever wish for. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, May 21st from 4-7:00 PM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St (rt. 106) Kingston. Interment will be private. Donations may be made to: Standish Humane Society of Duxbury, the Duxbury Rural and Historical Society, or MSPCA-Angell.
