Obituary of James F. Keaney

James Francis Keaney, 74, of Millbury, and formerly of Pembroke, entered eternal life peacefully on June 2, 2015 after a long illness. Jim was the beloved husband of the late Kathryn L. (O’Connor) Keaney. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Jack and Frances Keaney, as well as his sister Harriet Keaney. He is survived by his brother Paul Keaney and sister Mary Ellen Bartlett. A devoted father, Jim relished the time that he spent with his children; James H. Keaney and wife Jennifer (Tennessee), Stephanie Keaney and Brian Rochette, John Keaney and wife Ann Marie (Connecticut). When we were young, he never missed our games, events, and other adventures, often making his presence felt through some extra-encouraging cheering! As we grew older, his passion for and pride in us never faded. Jim’s kindness, supportive love, and caring were intensified in his special role as “Papa” for his nine grandchildren; Justin, Savannah, Hope, Sophie, Connor, Jack, William, Bianca, and Marielena. Even with so many to look after, he excelled at spoiling them and making each one feel special; through his interest and presence in their lives, various crazy escapades, and of course going out to grab a treat together! Throughout all of life’s twists and turns, and no matter what challenges he faced, Dad always found a way to embrace things on his own terms. Along the way he taught us his unique style of humor, faithfulness, humility, loyalty, a competitive and playful spirit, and yes a little stubbornness too. We have countless smiles and fond memories that will live in our hearts forever. We will miss him dearly. We also thank and honor him for his service in the United States Army, including various conflicts abroad, and his dedication to the Pembroke Public Library as a Trustee for many years. Visiting Hours will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 7 Mattakeesett St, Pembroke on Friday, June 5, from 5:00 to 8:00PM. A Funeral Mass will be held, Saturday at St. Theclas Church in Pembroke, at 11:00AM. Internment will follow at Center Cemetery, in Pembroke.
