Obituary of Marjorie Ruth Recke

Marjorie Ruth Recke, age 78, died on Sunday, September 6, 2015, following a long illness. Born in Boston in 1936, she was the daughter of the late Rudolph and Ruth Recke. She graduated from Roslindale High School, New England Baptist School of Nursing, Simmons College and Syracuse University. She taught in the College of Nursing at University of Delaware and UMass Dartmouth. She also taught at New England Baptist and Framingham Union Hospital School of Nursing. Marjorie later worked in nursing home management until she retired in 1998. Marjorie lived for more than 30 years in Newburyport, where she was very involved in the Central Congregational Church, singing in the choir and serving on many committees. She was an active member of the Newburyport Art Association. An accomplished painter in both oil and pastel, her work appeared in many art shows. She did needlework of all types and was an avid reader. She loved to travel, especially with her three sisters. Marjorie was predeceased by her sister, Barbara Wain. She is survived by her two sisters, Judith Boutilier & her husband Richard of Chester, CT, and Karen Baker & her husband Lawrence of Hanover, MA, seven nieces and nephews, and seven grandnieces & grandnephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 10:30 AM at the Central Congregational Church, 14 Titcomb Street, Newburyport. Donations in her memory may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org
