Walter Downs Keleher, 76, of Duxbury, died peacefully on October 29, 2015. He was the cherished husband of Wendy Webster Keleher for 53 years, and beloved father to Christopher of Jakarta, Indonesia, Heather Maxey of Duxbury, and Cricket Braun of Charlotte, VT. Walter was the son of the late Robert William Keleher and Elsa Berg von Linde Keleher of Riverside, CT and the brother of Linde MacNamara of Hanover, NH and the late Frederick Keleher. He is survived by his seven grandchildren: Zoe, Elizabeth, and Zak Maxey and Cally, Tatum, Walter, and William Braun. Walter graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy, attended both Cornell and Columbia Universities, and served in the United States Marine Corps. He was President of Evergreen Resources Corporation for 48 years, was a member of the Duxbury Yacht Club, the Tihaunet Club, and was a Lifetime Member of Ducks Unlimited. He also was a Trustee of the Duxbury Beach Reservation and a Lifetime Trustee of the Manomet Center for Conservation Science. Walter was an avid birder, fly fisherman, and environmentalist, and was recognized as a champion sailor, football player, squash player, swimmer, and duplicate bridge player. A celebration of Walter's life will be held on Saturday, November 28 at 11:00 am at the First Unitarian Church in Duxbury, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Manomet Center for Conservation Science.
