Obituary of Joan Desmond

Joan Carol Frazier Desmond, 76, of Pembroke, passed away December 8, 2015. Born October 4,1939. Joined St Thomas More at approx. 12 years old. Married on May 14, 1960 To David Richard Desmond who died in January 1991. Voted for 1st time for JFK in 1960 . Won The VFW Nationals at Central Park New York, with her Color Guard and with LT Norman Prince also won the senior division, (over 21 years old), in 1958/59. Joan began teaching the Junior Color Guard, then went on to teach Immaculate Conception, then the Boston Crusaders for at least 5 years 1966-1969, before moving to Pembroke. Joan began an elementary school enrichment program in the 1970's for the Pembroke schools. She joined the Plymouth AD-IN support group in the 1970's. She went on to co-found Pembroke Connection for parents of ADD and ADHD children. She was also co-president of the special education support group. Joan joined Sweet Adeline's in 1982, where she was a member of 3 choruses. Joan was section leader, choreographer director, and the director of the Island Grove Chorus for 10 years, before leaving and becoming leader of Life's A Pitch, a small acapella singing group. She leaves behind her children, David Desmond and his wife Rosalyn of Plymouth, Nancy Morin and her husband Scott of Pembroke, and Brian Desmond of Somerville. Her sister Linda Frazier of Quincy, and her granddaughters Hannah and Emily Morin. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 11th at 10:00 AM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 7 Mattakeesett St (Rt. 14) Pembroke. A graveside service will follow at Center cemetery in Pembroke. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: Cranberry Area Hospice, 36 Cordage Park Circle, Suite 326, Plymouth, MA 02360
