Sonny's passing brought back many memories: how impressive he looked in his Navy uniform, how he was a good friend and classmate (at Coyne Electrical School in Chicago) of my uncle, Bud Hackett. He and Uncle Bud braved a huge blizzard to get home for Christmas all the way from Chicago. It seemed like magic to this then 8-year-old when they showed up on Christmas day, right in the middle of all that falling snow. He shared his family with us, too: his sister Ellen was my nightly babysitter. He was a wonderful man who was held in high esteem by our family.
