ELIZA ANN TOMPKINS GUSTAVSON
GUSTAVSON, Ann T. (73) of Duxbury, MA passed away peacefully in the presence of close family at home in Duxbury, MA, on February 3, 2016. Born in 1942 in Boston, MA, Ann was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Almy Tompkins of Baltimore, MD. She graduated from the Bryn Mawr School in Baltimore, MD and Wheaton College in Norton, MA, with a major in American History. For many years, Ann was actively involved in The Vincent Club, the Chilton Club, and the National Society of Colonial Dames of America. She was a Fellow at the Massachusetts Historical Society and pursued her studies in political, social, and military history during the Colonial, Revolutionary, early Republic, and subsequent formative years of our country. Her fascination with genealogical and other historical records propelled her search to examine in depth the events and true to life qualities of the characters who have determined our country’s history. Ann’s research and writing interests aimed to promote patriotism and the education of young Americans about our country’s past and present in order that they may judiciously and responsibly lead the way into our country’s future. She recently completed a manuscript involving the Punitive Expedition of 1916. Ann was a dedicated mother and grandmother and is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Gustavson Rose (Douglas), of Duxbury, and two granddaughters, Madeleine and Samantha, and is predeceased by her son, Richard T. Gustavson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Indian Mission of Christ Church, Alexandria, VA, or the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Boston, MA.
