Obituary of Joseph P. Leighton

Joseph Pereira Leighton, "Joey", 63, of Duxbury passed away peacefully, while surrounded by his family, on March 21, 2016.
Joey was born in Boston on July 17, 1952. He is graduate of Northeastern University where he obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Joey was married to the love of his life, Mary Anne (Stauff) Leighton for 40 years. Following his retirement as a Mechanical Engineer, he worked at Home Depot in the Gardening Department where he pursued his passion for gardening and the outdoors. Joey's hobbies included cooking, gardening, riding his motorcycle, and working in his wood shop, where he honed his skills as a master craftsman. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Joey is survived by his wife Mary Anne, his son Joseph Leighton and wife Michelle of Litchfield, NH, his daughter Stephanie Leighton of Charlotte, NC, his granddaughters, Camryn and Madelyn Leighton of Litchfield, NH, his two sisters, Cheryl Miller of Hull, Diana Keefe and her husband Tom of Quincy and his brother, Alfred Leighton and his wife Rhonda, of Missouri. Joey is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and his lifelong best friend, John David Haigh of Pembroke. Joey is preceded in death by his parents Joseph Pereira Leighton and mother, Elsie (Coelho) Leighton.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, March 28th from 4-8:00 PM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St (Rt. 106) Kingston. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, March 29th, at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Church in Duxbury. Interment will be at the Mayflower cemetery in Duxbury.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in honor of Joseph P. Leighton to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at www.pancan.org.
