Paul A. Tura of Kingston passed away unexpectedly at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital Boston, on January 9th, 2017 at the age of 74. He was the devoted husband of 46 years to Jean (Guidoboni) Tura of Kingston and loving father to sons Christopher and Michael Tura and their wives Jill (Garrison) and Hillary (Dana) Tura all of Nahant, son of the late Leon and Lucy Tura and brother to Thomas Tura.
Paul graduated from Sacred Heart High School, class of 1960. He received his associate degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering in 1962 from Wentworth Institute of Technology. After graduating he went on to a supervisory position at Hazeltine Corporation in Braintree until 1971. Paul furthered his education at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and received his bachelor’s of Science Degree in Pharmacy in 1974 when he joined his father at Tura’s Pharmacy. In 2015 he retired as a co-owner of the pharmacy which served the public continuously for over a century in Kingston Center. In earlier years, Paul worked behind the soda fountain where locals and friends met daily.
In 1963 Paul was appointed as a call firefighter by the Kingston Fire Department. He later attained his Firefighter 1 certification from the State Fire Academy, and proudly served his town for 44 years until his retirement at the age of 65.
At an early age Paul became a member of the St. Joseph’s Council of the Knights of Columbus #4480, joining his father and 2 uncles. Paul, together with his sons, attained their 4th degree within the Reverend Robert H. Buchan Assembly 2314. Paul was also a member of the Kingston Columbian Building Association.
As an active leader with the Boy Scouts of America in Kingston, starting with Tiger Cubs in Pack 4480, Paul supported both of his sons on their paths to Eagle Scout with Troop 49.
Paul maintained a lifetime interest in electronics and recently obtained his amateur radio operators license and became a member and officer of the Genesis Amateur Radio Society with the call sign N1KFD.
A lifetime Kingston resident, Paul was involved in town politics, serving on the Board of Health for 17 years. He continued his town service sitting on a number of advisory committees, most recently the Town Government Study Committee in 2010.
Paul was serving as the 1st Vice President of the Kingston Lions Club. His father was one of the original members who started the KLC in 1947. Paul was looking forward to celebrating the KLC 70th Anniversary this year, in honor of the original members.
Paul had many hobbies, and loved to share them with his friends and family. He enjoyed boating and was a member of the Kingston Yacht Club. He loved water and alpine skiing, travelling and attending antique car shows. He always kept a camera close and loved taking and sharing photos.
Paul’s customers and friends remember him as a kind, friendly and gentle person, always willing to help. He was very knowledgeable of the history of Kingston and its townspeople and enjoyed sharing in conversations.
Paul will be greatly missed.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday January 17, 2017 from 4-8 pm at Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St. (Rte 106) Kingston, MA. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Church on Wednesday January 18, 2017 at 11AM, Burial to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Plymouth, MA.
