Elizabeth “Betsy Allen” Duggan of Pembroke MA, gently slipped from this life on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 to join her loving husband and all of her family who have gone before her. She celebrated 88 years of life. Betsy was born in Hanover NH in 1928. Betsy was the youngest of the Allen children. She spent her childhood summers in northern Vermont at Lake Willoughby with her many nieces and nephews who she adored so much. A 1946 graduate of Hanover High School, post WWII she spent her days helping her mother run the Allen Drug store in Hanover NH and at and attending the University of New Hampshire. In 1950 she met the love of her life, John Duggan when he was visiting friends at Willoughby. A flat tire brought him to her for a jack to lift the car. They were married in 1951 and settled in Cohasset MA. While John ran the family business, Monroe Company of Quincy, Betsy raised their four children sharing her love of nature, family and animals with each of them while continuing to spend summers in Vermont with her mother, Marion Allen and their extended family. Betsy loved Willoughby Lake with all her heart. Once the children were grown, John and Betsy spent time flying and going to Nascar races and spending time with their grandchildren. Her love will shine on in their children. She was an avid gardener and loved growing African violets, reading, playing solitaire for hours, and crossword puzzles. Upon retirement, more time was spent at Lake Willoughby and they built their dream home in Pembroke. They had celebrated 55 years of marriage when John passed in 2007. Betsy has joined the love of her life John and the rest of her immediate family. Her smile and gentle ways will be missed by all of her friends and family.
