Obituary of Virginia K. Burke

Virginia K. Burke, a resident of Duxbury, born and raised in the Mission Hill section of Boston, died on May 2, 2017, as she would say “in her 84th year”, after a long illness.
Virginia worked at Ocean Spray Cranberries retiring in 1996. After retirement, she volunteered at the Duxbury Senior Center. She was a lifelong fan of Boston sports, particularly the Patriots. Virginia enjoyed family gatherings, Duxbury Beach, and travelling, particularly her trips to Ireland to visit her cousins. Most of all, Virginia cherished her roles as wife, mother and Nana and was proud of her children and grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 39 years Paul. Survived by her daughter Jeanne M. Paquin and her husband Paul of Hull, son Paul T. Burke and wife Judy of Marshfield, daughter Kathleen B. Peabody and husband David of Duxbury, and son John E. Burke and wife Shondra of Hull. Devoted Nana to Adrienne, Catherine, Guy, Tammy, Tina, Emily, Thomas, Christopher, Siobhan, and Jack as well as 10 great grandchildren. Sister of Thomas J. Hayes and wife Phyllis of Canton, Margaret J. Murray and husband Jack of Hingham, sister-in-law of Jack Kelly of Duxbury and Joan Burke of Halifax. Predeceased by her sister Mary Ellen Kelly, of Duxbury. Also, survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday, May 7th, from 2-6:00 PM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St (Rt. 106) Kingston. Relatives and friends are welcome to gather at the funeral home at 9:00 AM on Monday, May 8th prior to the Funeral Mass in Holy Family Church, Duxbury at 10:00 AM. Graveside services will follow in Mayflower Cemetery, Duxbury. Donations in Virginia's memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
