Obituary of Kathlyn B. Olson
Please share a memory of Kathlyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kathlyn B. Olson entered Heaven’s Gate on September 1, 2017. Deeply rooted in faith and family, she brought happiness to so many with her ever-present zest for life and unconditional love and compassion. Born to the late Carl and Laura Bullock on January 29, 1951 in New Bern, North Carolina, Kay grew up in Havelock and attended Meredith College in Raleigh. She lived in Florida, Texas, and Germany before eventually settling in Massachusetts (though never accuse her of being a Yankee). Proud of her Southern heritage. she annually vacationed in her beloved home state alongside her children and grandchildren whom will continue the family tradition in her honor. She was famous for dropping in, occasionally with random gifts, and would give all she could ahead of her own needs. Kay was an active member in her church community, and played a significant role in raising her grandchildren. Kay is survived by her son Jarrett Helms and his wife Becky of Reston, VA, son Brian Helms and his wife Jeanette of Carver, MA, son Charles Olson and his wife Allison of Hickory, NC, daughter Lacey Olson of South Hadley, MA; grandchildren Gabriel, Isabella, Jameson, Nathan, Josephine; brother Raymond Bullock of Morehead City, NC, nephew Nathan Bullock of Morehead City, nephew Nelson Bullock of Wilmington, NC.
Visiting Hours will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 116 Main st. Carver on Wednesday, September 6, from 4:00 to 8:00PM. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September 7, at the Shepherd Funeral Home, Carver at 10:00AM.
In lieu of flowers donations in her name can be made to the Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation, 251 East Huron Street, Galter 3-200, Chicago, IL 60611.
