Obituary of Marie Griswold

Please share a memory of Marie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marie Griswold died Feb. 2 at Newfield House in Plymouth. She was 92. A resident of Pembroke, she was the founder and owner of Braid Aid in Pembroke. In 1947, Marie, along with her husband Roger invented a product called the braid aid. This device simplified the task of rug braiding by folding the strips of wool into tubes. Thus, Braid Aid the business was born. Leaving her chidren at home, she was off to become one of America's first entrapenors. Now keep in mind, the year was 1947, and wives were expected to stay home and dutifully take care of the children and home. But not Marie ! A petite little spitfire, a graduate of high school with no business training, but an uncanny need to know, learn and explore all potentials, had a vision. From MA to CA she visited department stores in all of the major cities. Her product became nation wide. For the next 57 years at her shop, first in Duxbury then to Rt. 53 in Pembroke, she provided expert help on everything pertaining to rug braiding. With the help of her 3 children, her business thrived until they all retired in 2004. Marie Griswold is a true matriach, and throughout the years has, and is the true picture of motherhood and business woman, shuffling between the two for over 57 years. Her painting is a pallette of hard work, devotion and love. She was the wife of the late Roger C. Griswold, the loving mother of Sandra Cheverie of Carver, Douglas McAloney of AZ, and Barry McAloney of Carver, and the late Pamela Corsi, devoted grandmother of 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Wed. Feb. 6 at Shepherd Funeral Home, 7 Mattakeesett St. (Rt14) Pembroke Center at 10:00AM. Interment in Mayflower Cemetery, Duxbury. Visiting hours on Tues. 2-4 and 6-8PM.
