Lawrence C. Black, known as “Blackie” passed away in Brandon, Florida on January 29, 2010.
He is the husband of one year to Mildred Monti, his soul mate. Larry was born at home in Duxbury, MA to Clara and Sargent Black in 1930. He is the brother of the late Sara, Annie, Gladys, Dorothy and William Black. He served in the Merchant Marines and was deployed to Korea.
He worked as an auto mechanic for Walter Prince and Bennett’s in Duxbury. He was a boat builder and cabinet maker. He was also a boat mechanic who worked for Bass River Marina in West Yarmouth, before retiring. Larry loved to travel with his wife in their motor home. They traveled all over New England and New York and as far south as Key West, Florida. Larry also loved to play bingo and had many bingo friends. He enjoyed his garden and his dog Brownie.
Larry, having mastered a cell phone, was greatly interested in the lives of his friends and family and called them often.
He is survived by his wife Millie, his son Lawrence Black of Ravena, New York, nieces Robin Bauder and Frances Bradshaw of Florida, Carla Leach Maryland, three grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and seven grateful step-children, from two marriages.
A celebration of his life will be held at Pinehurst Club House, Pinehurst Village Plymouth at 1:00 on February 13, 2010. Donations can be made to Boxer Buddies Rescue, P O Box 120, Bellingham, MA 02019.
