I had the privilege and honor of having many phone conversations with Helen relating to her desire to not only maintain the Town of Kingston in a manner consistent with a community possessing the many treasurers Kingston has but also to fight deliberately, intelligently and effectively for the causes which we, yes we, found were the genesis for our friendship.
Rare indeed is the individual today that has the stamina, intelligence and good old fashion moxie to take on the majority when they are blinded by greed, stupidity and a lack of good old common sense. It was against this wall of anarchist that Helen stood, unafraid of the ramifications to her, while consistently maintaining not only the good humor for which she was well known but also for her steadfast desire to do what was right for out town despite the efforts of some to cause her social harm and bring into question the intelligence of one whose intellectual capability was, and is, above reproach.
It is for these reasons and others to numerous to mention that I will have to deal with a void in my life, as will many others like me. Just at a time when Helen should be basking in the glow of her own success in tackling those who would come to our town hell bent on destroying the good nature of our community and forever changing life as we know and enjoy it; she was taken from us.
Those of us who cared for Helen will never be quite the same. But we must recall that our loss is Helen's gain, for now she stands in the light of eternal glory free from the pains she endured as a loving and caring stalwart in our time.
Very respectfully,
Dick Dennehy
