Obituary of Thomas J.P. Gavin

Thomas Joseph Patrick Gavin of Kingston, MA, formerly of Hyde Park
and Norwell, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 26, 2010. He was
82. World War II veteran (4th Marine Division), decorated Boston City
Police Sergeant Detective, former head of security at the Jordan
Hospital, autodidact, and enthusiastic supporter of Sacred Heart High
School. Born on March 13, 1928 in Boston, MA, he was the son of the
late Thomas Joseph Gavin and Irene (Fallon) Gavin. He is predeceased
by Helen Katherine (McGoey) Gavin, his beloved wife of 36 years.

Patrick Gavin of New York, NY; and Caitlin Gavin-Day and her husband
Sean Day of Duxbury, MA; proud grandfather of Kara Tolland of
Plymouth, MA, Edward Tolland of Mount Joy, PA, Deirdre Orlando of
Duxbury, MA, Ryan Gavin of New York, NY, Jonathan Gavin of Brookline,
MA, Kathleen Gavin of Tolland, CT, Michael Barrett of Marshfield, MA,
Matthew Gavin of Tolland, CT, Jennifer Andrea of Marshfield, MA, and
Sheila Dougherty of Marshfield, MA; adoring great-grandfather of
Alaina Tolland, Gavin Tolland, Gabrielle Tolland, and Nicholas
Orlando. Loving brother of William Gavin and his wife Marjorie of
Westwood, MA, the late Helen Dabrieo, Eileen O'Connor, Mary Moore,
Doris Gavin, and Joan Weckbacher. He also leaves behind several
cousins, a host of nieces and nephews, and scores of friends. Visiting
hours at Shepherd Funeral Home, Kingston, MA from 4-8 pm on Friday
April 30. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 am on Saturday, May 1
at Holy Family Church, Duxbury, MA. Flowers are welcome. Contributions
may be sent to the American Stroke Association, a division of the
American Heart Association at www.americanheart.org
