Obituary of Edmund Arthur Norrie

It is with great sadness that the family of Edmund Arthur “EA" Norrie announces his passing on Saturday, June 30, 2018, at the age of 73 years.  After a long fought battle with cancer he quietly passed away embraced by his daughter, Jacki, and granddaughter, Samantha, at his home in Plympton, Massachusetts.

EA was born in Brockton to John A. and Mary Margaret (O’Brien) Norrie on March 3, 1945. He went to high school at Silver Lake Regional and graduated in 1963.  While there, he actively participated in the Future Farmers of America program. He began his lifelong love of driving with his brothers at Norrie Brother’s Trucking shortly after graduation. Ever the independent soul, in 1978 EA branched out on his own as an owner/operator founding EA Norrie Trucking of Kingston.  In 1997 he relocated his company and expanded the business to include Winnetuxet River Provide, a landscape supply company, in Plympton.  During the Vietnam  War he served his country as an MP in the Massachusetts National Guard.  He enjoyed taking family vacations, hitting the Casino with ‘the boys’, playing cribbage and Solitaire but, his true passion in life was driving his Mack.

Edmund is survived by his loving daughter, Jacki Manning Norrie and cherished granddaughter, Samantha T. Ferrari of Plympton.  He is also survived by his brother John W. Norrie of Plympton and his brother David A. “Duffy” Norrie, and sister-in-law Anne (Mills), of Carver.  He will be greatly missed by grandchildren Tristen and Audrey Manning of Nantucket and Jessica Manning of Carver.  He will be lovingly remembered by nephews John T. “Terry”, Heath A. and Ian S. Norrie all of Plympton, Christian J.E. Norrie of Wareham, niece Shannon C. Norrie and grandniece Teagan A. Norrie both of Carver.  He will forever live on in the hearts of his  former wife and close friend Debbi (Sylvester) Norrie of Kingston, daughter in law Robin Manning of Nantucket, former sister-in-law Linda J. (Stewart) Norrie of Plympton, and longtime dear friend Liz Tewksbury of Plymouth.  A hole has been created in the tightly knit trucking community with the loss of “The Legend”. He is preceded in death by his parents John A. and Mary M. Norrie, his  brother George L. Norrie, and his son, James M. Manning.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, July 7th from 4-8:00 PM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St (rt.106) Kingston. A graveside Service will take place on Sunday, July 22nd at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Plympton  at 9:00 AM.
