Obituary of Ralph W. Peltola
Ralph W. Peltola, 91 of Carver passed away peacefully December 8th at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Joan R. (Johnson) Peltola.
Born November 16, 1927 in Wareham, he was the son of the late Julius and Olga (Helminen)Peltola. Ralph was predeceased by his older brother Edwin Peltola, older sister Ellen Kainu, and younger sister Emily Peltola . He is survived by his younger sister Eila Peltola of Sarasota, FL . Ralph was the beloved father of his oldest daughter Melodie Carter and her husband Jeffrey Carter. His son Stephen Peltola and his wife Michelle Peltola, and youngest daughter Debra Peltola-Salmons and her husband Billy Salmons. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Trisha Manganello, Terrence Sullivan, Tom Carter, Joshua Carter, Ben Peltola, Ali Peltola, Nick Farmer, Jon Farmer, Dane Salmons and Dylan Salmons. Great-Grandchildren Emma, Molly, Hannah “Joanie” Sullivan,, Christian and Bella Carter. Ralph has many loving nieces and nephews.
Educated in the Wareham Public schools, he went to work in the Hingham Shipyard at the age of 16. He served in the United States Army where he was Honorably discharged. He was a mechanic, welder, carpenter and all around tradesman. Upon his marriage he purchased his first cranberry bog and began his full time career as a cranberry grower. He was a Grower/Owner with Ocean Spray Cranberries for over 50 years along with being a member of the Cape Cod Cranberry Growers Association and Farm Bureau. He was active in his local community as a member of the Planning Board, Jaycees and as Building Inspector. Ralph loved to work on his bogs and in his yard. He enjoyed bowling throughout his life and later in life fell in love with the game of Golf. He was an avid reader, and traveller. He and his wife Joan travelled all across the USA and many other countries, enjoying adventures with friends and family.
Visiting Hours will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 116 Main St, Carver on Tuesday, December 11, from 4:00 to 7:00PM. A Funeral Service will be held at the United Parish in Carver on Wednesday, December 12, at 10:00AM.
