Robert P. Burkhardt, 88, of Halifax, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2019. Loving husband, father and grandfather.
Robert was born on January 2, 1931 in Boston, MA to John and Eliza Jane Burkhardt. He is survived by his brother John Burkhardt of Scituate, his wife Sally S. Burkhardt of 31 years, four sons, Robert Jr., David, Daniel, and Thomas Burkhardt, and four stepchildren, Doug, Dean, Mark, and Emilie. Eleven grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Robert enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1948 and was stationed on the island of Guam. He served in the Korean War, Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Regiment. He fought in several battles, including the infamous battle at the Chosin Reservoir.
Robert owned and operated Burkhardt Bro’s. Moving and Storage since 1962.
Robert ran his business and lived his life by the Marine Corps values of honor, courage and commitment.
Visiting Hours will be held on Saturday, January 19, at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St, Kingston from 1:00 to 4:00PM. A eulogy and Memorial service will be held at 4:00PM at the Shepherd Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Toys for Tots.
