Obituary of Edward Donald Clinton
Edward Donald Clinton passed away peacefully on March 18th at Jordan Hospital in Plymouth at the age of 88. “Grampa Ed” as he was affectionately known is survived by his older brother John Russell “Uncle Russy” Clinton of Milton, MA and his younger brother Eugene “Gene” Clinton of Halifax, MA as well as his children; Kenneth Clinton and wife Laura Clinton of Carver; and Ronald Clinton of West Palm Beach, FL. In addition, he is survived by his grandchildren - Nicholas Clinton of Newport Beach, CA; Andrew Clinton of Boston, MA; Melissa Willard of Middleboro, MA; Heather Simpson and husband Bryan Simpson of Whitman, MA; Jodi Daugherty of Halifax, MA ; James Durso of Boston, MA; Shannon DeNicolaof Marshfield, MA; as well as great grandchildren Hanna Simpson, Abigail Van, and Daniel Henderson. He is survived by close family friends Diane Sandonado, Robert “Bob” Nye, Cory Nye, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife Mary Ann (née Caliri) Clinton and his beloved dog, Wolfie. He will be greatly missed by his neurotic dog Lucy and cat companions Sophy, Marley, and Simba who often fought for coveted rides on his walker.
Ed was born on March 8th, 1931 in Cambridge, MA to parents James and Margaret (née Donahue) Clinton. He grew up in Brookline as one of eight children and later lived in Holbrook for over 30 years as well as in Brockton and Carver. Edward enlisted in the US Marine Corps in June of 1947 and served as a Drill Sergeant stationed in San Diego until May of 1952. He held many careers during his life, starting as a plumber at Armstrong World Industries in Braintree, before becoming a general construction builder for 25 years, moving on to General Dynamics as a pipe fitter, and eventually retiring as a Clerk of the Works for the State of Massachusetts. Of all the positions he held during his life, he was happiest as father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Ed loved spending time with family, watching classic films, and engaging in political discussion. Edward was a life-long Democrat and hoped to one day see Hillary Clinton or Elizabeth Warren in the White House.
Funeral Services will be held Friday March 22, 2019 at Shepherd Funeral Home, 116 Main St in Carver, MA 02330. A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM with services starting at 11:00 AM. This will be immediately followed by a ceremony at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA at 12:30PM.
