Dear Family of Mr. Blanton,
My family really enjoyed knowing Mr. Blanton, Elmore, these last seven months as he has been a dinner companion to our Dad, John Calhoun. Elmore was a true gentleman right up to our last visit about a week ago. He was always pleasant, cheerful, and optimistic as he continued to get his exercise strolling the entire length of the building at Newfield House. He worked hard to maintain strength and mobility.
One night, near New Year's Eve, Elmore was not crazy about dinner...I encouraged him to hang around at the table anyway as I had seen dessert and it looked great. As he finished that first spoonful of dessert, he caught the eye of the young server, and in his delightful southern manner said, "I truly believe you have redeemed yourself with this wonderful dessert. Thank you ever so much!" Many in the dining room got a chuckle out of his enthusiastic comment.
My family and I will truly miss Elmore. He is in our thoughts and prayers, as are all of you at this sad time.
