Obituary of Irving M Whitney

Irving “Bud” M. Whitney, age 96 of Port Charlotte, FL, formerly of Venice, FL, passed away June 27, 2019. He was born July 2, 1922 in Duxbury, Massachusetts to Lawrence and Esther Whitney. Bud graduated from Duxbury High School and went on to proudly serve in the US Navy in WWII and Korea. He was a Pearl Harbor Survivor. Bud was a member of the Old Colony Sportsman’s Club, the Corner Stone Masonic Lodge, the Pembroke Fire Department Association, and a lifetime member of the American Legion.
Bud enjoyed serving as a Duxbury and Pembroke fire fighter. He also loved entertaining people, as he dressed up like Uncle Sam in parades since 1976 and would dress up as Santa Clause for private functions. Bud kept people guessing by wearing different hats.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edith H Whitney; his son-in-law, Ronald Diehl; and his sister, Lois Ludlow. Bud is survived by his children, Lynne (John) Ruel of Punta Gorda, FL, and Susan Diehl of Rockville, MD; grandchildren, Bernard Diehl and Ronald (Corinne) Diehl; great grandchildren, Paige and Abby Diehl; and 2 nieces and 2 nephews.
A graveside service will take place at Center Cemetery September 19, 2019 11:00 am in Pembroke, Massachusetts.
