George was born in Walpole, Massachusetts on April 8, 1928. In the 1930's his family moved to the Halifax Beach area. This was a blessing for George, as he was such an avid sports enthusiast ; in the winter he would set up his own hockey rink on Monponsett Pond, frequently joined by other boys in the neighborhood , springtime he had a make-shift basketball hoop in his yard, summer was dedicated to baseball, to the Boston Red Sox and of course, football in the Fall. To this day, he has a passion for sports and in his early twenties, was smitten by the game of golf, and to practice those skills, he partially buried empty tuna fish cans in the yard to serve as his golf cups. To this day, he has a golf cup in his living room to hone in on his skills.
George was a graduate of Whitman High School, class of 1946, as the Town of Whitman accepted students from the towns of Halifax and Hanson in those days. He enlisted in the United States Army and upon his honorable discharge in December of 1947, he received the World War 11 Victory Medal Army of Occupation Medal Japan.
He then attended and graduated from The Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. He was employed in this capacity in the 1950's at the Hanson Drug Store and Pembroke Drug Store. He was also employed at Marshfield Pharmacy up to the time of his retirement.
In 1963, he married Sandra Hirst. They spent their summers vacationing in the Pinehurst section of Wareham MA. They had many happy times sailing in the wind in their 23 foot sailboat on Buzzards Bay, enjoying the beauty of the sea and visiting various harbors. George's love of the sea included the love of its bounty, including, his favorite being, a New England Lobster/Clambake.
In his retirement years, he had enjoyed gardening, being notorious for his bountiful tomato crop, which he shared with local family members. He was able to continue his golf game with his great nephews. He loved his home, and was very content with his large flat screen television, mostly, of course, tuned into the sports channels. He had no major health issues that anyone knew about.
