Obituary of John G. Mather

John G (Jack) Mather Sr. 75 of Halifax, passed away peacefully on September 20th at his home in Halifax. 

Funeral service will be held at Our Lady of the Lake in Halifax on Wednesday Sept 25th at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at central Cemetery in Halifax. Visitation will be held in Kingston on Tuesday September 24th from 4pm-8pm. Shepherd Funeral Home will be handling the funeral arrangements.

Jack was born in Brockton to Inez and George Mather on August 15th, 1944 He went to high school at Brockton High school and graduated in 1960.  He went on to earn a degree in Theology from Pope John Paul Seminary.  He worked in public housing for both Brockton and Quincy until his retirement as the Executive Director of Quincy Housing Authority in 2003.  He continued as an independent consultant for the Town iof Marshfield until June of 2019.  He enjoyed being active in his community as a Boy Scout leader of many years. He devoted 40 years of volunteering to his church, Our Lady of the Lake in Halifax. He sat on many town and local committees.  He was also an avid fisherman.  

Jack is survived by his children Karen Harvey her husband Doug Harvey their children Christopher, Evan, Dylan and Addisyn of Bellingham; John Mather, his wife Lindsey Mather, their children Mila and Mason of Mansfield; Mark Mather, his wife Monica Mather and their daughter Victoria of Purcellville Virginia; and Lauren Mather of Halifax. He is preceded in death by his mother Inez Skinner Mather, his father George Mather and his wife Mary Shaw Mather. 

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Transplant staff at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center of Boston, the South Shore VNA and The Pure Life Renal Center of Stoughton.
