Edith T. Briell of Duxbury, Mass died peacefully with her children by her side on December 27, 2019. Edith was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years William T. Briell in 1998. She is survived by her three children; William T. Briell Jr. of Duxbury, MA, Kenneth Briell of Saratoga Springs NY, and Julie Briell of Duxbury, MA. She is also survived by her two grandchildren; grandson Jeremy Briell (wife Kim Briell) of Waterford, NY and granddaughter Jessie Q. Fallow of Manhattan NY. and her two great granddaughters; Amanda Briell and Caitlin Briell of Waterford, NY.
Born in 1922 in Paissic County, NJ, Edith grew up in Bogota NJ and graduated from Bogota High in 1940. She studied business courses at PACE University after high school. She was married to William T. Briell in 1946 and they raised their family in Saratoga Springs, NY until moving to Duxbury, MA in 1981 after being transferred by 3M Company. Having volunteered for years as a classroom aid for deaf children in the Saratoga school system, Edith brought her love for volunteering to Duxbury as a teacher’s aid in Mrs. Swiniarkski’s kindergarten class from 1982-1986. She was a lover of animals and a devoted member of Standish Humane Society until her death and served as their treasurer for 22 years. Edith’s kind and generous nature will be missed by her family and many friends. Just shy of her 98th birthday she enjoyed a wonderful healthy life up till the end but somehow it feels like it was cut short. We love you Mom and you are missed more than you can imagine.
A celebration of Edith’s life will be held at the First Parish Church in Duxbury, 842 Tremont St, Duxbury, MA on Sunday, January 26th at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Edith’s beloved charity Standish Humane Society, PO Box 634, Duxbury, MA 02331
