Elizabeth M. Telless, 90, of Carver, died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 10, 2020. Bette was preceded in death by her loving husband Robert H. Telless
Bette was born in Providence, RI, October 5, 1929, daughter of Charles and Gertrude Colvin and resided in Carver for the last 64 years. Bette was loving mother of eight children: Robert and his wife Christine, David, Leslie and his wife Leisa, Sandra and her wife Gail, all of Carver; Anne McClelland of Middleboro, Stephen of Texas, Brian and his wife Linda of Illinois, and Linda and Michael Frank of South Carolina. Bette was very active in all of her children’s lives and outside activities, serving as Girl Scout Troop Leader, Den Mother, and 4-H Leader. She had seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Bette leaves three sisters and is predeceased by a brother and sister.
Bette was a graduate of New England Hospital for Women and Children and worked as an RN at St. Luke’s Hospital in Middleboro. She was also affectionally known as the nurse to all of West Street. Bette loved to do all types of handiwork including knitting, crocheting and cross stitch, and was an amazing seamstress who worked for many years alongside her sister Anne making custom drapes. Bette had a beautiful voice and loved to sing, especially singing with her sisters. She was an avid reader and loved to play card games with the family. Bette is known by her family and many others as someone who loved to cook and bake, and was known as Bette Crocker by the neighborhood kids. She was one of the founding members of Carver Firemen’s Auxiliary, serving for many years as treasurer. Many a firefighter fondly remembers her bringing hot coffee, sandwiches, and soup to support the firemen who were out for extended periods fighting forest fires.
Please join us in celebrating Bette’s life. Visiting hours will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 116 Main St, Carver on Monday March 16 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at United Parish of Carver, 115 Main Street, Carver on Tuesday March 17 at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to United Parish of Carver, 115 Main Street, Carver MA 02330 or the Carver Firefighters Association, P.O. Box 710, Carver MA 02330.
