Obituary of Eleanor J. DePina

Eleanor Jean DePina, 83, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 5, 2020, at her residence. She was preceded in death by her parents Antonio Barboza and Barbara Casey-Barboza; Manuel Viega of Duxbury, MA; Albert H. Gunderway, Jr. of Plymouth, MA; Olympio DePina of Brockton, MA; her daughter, Diane DePina of Duxbury, MA; her sisters, Joan Adams of California; Karen Barboza of Plymouth, MA; Barbie Newsom of Virginia; and her brothers, Donald Barboza of Brockton, MA; Robert Barboza of Carver, MA; and Steven Barboza of Kingston, MA.
Eleanor leaves to cherish her memories her son and daughter-in-law, Albert and Kelly DePina of Hampton, NH; daughter Debbie DePina of Boston, MA; sister and brother-in-law, Evy and Tom Chantre of Duxbury, MA; sister Louise Barboza of Plymouth, MA; and grandchildren, Regina DePina, Yolanda DePina, Dion DePina, Jerome Packard, Michael Williams, Charles Williams, John Williams, Jordan DePina, Brianne DePina, James Williams and David DePina, in addition to a host of relatives and friends.
Eleanor attended Duxbury High School. As a professional, she had over 30 years’ experience in a variety of fields, to include food and beverage and housekeeping. Her career journey included time with Raytheon, and she conducted volunteer work as a long-time active member of the Ladies Auxillary of the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) in Carver, MA.
Eleanor was well known for her soft heart and warm smile; always helping others in need; and hosting the best card nights. She had a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh. She was everyone’s “go-to” person in times of need or whenever they just needed someone to listen. Eleanor knew the Lord and in better health attended Holy Family Church in Duxbury, MA.
A funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday, May 13, 2020, at 12:15 p.m. Due to COVID-19 and the strict gathering limitations, the family will have a private viewing and graveside service to follow at Mayflower Cemetery, 774 Tremont St, Duxbury, MA 02332, which will be streamed online. Flowers can be sent to Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St, Kingston, MA 02364.
