Obituary of Richard E. Nordahl
Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Richard E. Nordahl, “Dick” of Plympton passed away peacefully on May 21, 2020 at the age of 81. Born to Emery and Amy Nordahl on September 11, 1938 and raised in Randolph, Richard moved to Plympton 47 years ago with his loving wife of 56 years, Pauline Collins. Dick is survived by his wife Polly, his sister Anita Taylor of ME and his three children; Erik Nordahl of Westwood, Elizabeth Nordahl Adonis of Pembroke and Kristina Nordahl LaFrance of Canton. He was lovingly known as Poppy to his eight grandchildren and two great granddaghters and Uncle Dick to his nephews. Dick was predeceased by his younger twin brothers, Victor and Frederick Nordahl.
Dick began his long career with the Bank of Boston as a mailroom clerk and retired as a Senior Vice President of the trust department. After retirement, he served for many years on the Plympton Board of Assessors where he gained the respect and admiration of many. Dick was a proud member of the Viking Club and devoted member of the New England Bantam Club. An avid reader and history buff, he loved learning and sharing his Norwegian and Swedish heritage and traditions. But his true passion aside from his love for his family was working as a farmer and gardener. From caring for a pony, sheep, many rabbits, cats and dogs to a Scottish highland cow, he was a poultry farmer at heart. He spent most of his free time raising countless chickens, ducks and geese. He was a kind and gentle soul and as Polly stated, his credo was “All creatures great and small and I care greatly for them all”. Services will be private.
