Please share a memory of Nicoletta “Nettie” to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Nicoletta (Nettie) DeNigris Nahmias 100
Nettie Nahmias was an 18-year resident of the Village at Duxbury. She was born Nicoletta DeNigris in The Bronx, NY on July 20, 1920 and passed away of natural causes at the Newfield House, Plymouth on July 19, 2020, just hours after celebrating her 100 birthday with her
loving family.

While “Granny” had many, many friends throughout her life, her priorities were simple, consistent, and unmistakable - family, family, and family. She was a wonderful, caring role model for her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren. A close nephew described her as “loving, of the highest integrity, honest as the day is long”. Her passions for singing and eating chocolate paid great dividends, as she was blessed with excellent health and a long, beautiful life.

Nettie is survived by her son Al and wife Susan of Danbury, CT; son Bob and wife Lynne from Duxbury; Kathy Silva, wife of deceased son Richard; seven grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren.

Nettie was the oldest of four children born to Italian immigrants. She was a graduate of Hunter College in NY, where she sang soprano in the college choir alongside Regina Resnick who went on to star in the Metropolitan Opera. Her love of singing remained with her for her entire life.
In 1944, she married U.S. Naval Officer LT. Harold Nahmias, soon after he returned from the war in the Pacific. They resided at the U.S. Naval base in Norfolk, VA where they welcomed their first child. After the completion of Harold’s active duty, they returned to New York where they settled in Jericho, Long Island. She also gave to her community, heading the local PTA, serving as a cub scout leader, and organizing and leading a senior chorus for 20 years. In 2001, they relocated to the Village at Duxbury, a place where they loved living for more than 18 years.

A private service will be held on Thursday at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
