Obituary of John F. Licoski

John F. Licoski, 83, of Pembroke, passed away suddenly on December 14, 2020. He leaves behind four daughters and one son; Christine Morris of Louisiana, Laura Licoski of Florida, Heidi Jenkins of Indiana, Sonja White of Plymouth, MA and Jake Licoski of Myrtle Beach. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

 He was born in Worcester, the son of John F. Licoski and Ursula (Sudeski) Licoski. He was a graduate of St.Casimir School in Worcester, St. John’s High School Worcester, Quincy Jr College and Tulane University, New Orleans. Mr. Licoski spent 22 years in and retired from the United States Navy as a Chief Petty Officer. He worked for John Hancock Life Insurance Company for 12 years on the South Shore of Boston. In 1991 he retired from John Hancock and formed his own business called Shipmate Under Water Services, where he worked as a self employed diver. 
 

Mr. Licoski enjoyed volunteer work. He was volunteer at the New England Aquarium in Boston, taught religion classes at St. Theclas Catholic Church in Pembroke, was a Court mediator and probation officer at the Brockton District Court, South Shore Natural Science Center in Norwell and Web of Life Outdoor Function Center in Carver. He volunteered for Earthwatch on scientific expeditions that included England, the Gulf of Mexico and made five trips to the Amazon on fish studies. Mr. Licoski enjoyed many sports such as fishing, hunting and tennis. He enjoyed hand to hand combat that included karate and fencing. In 2001 he attended Gladiator School for two weeks in Rome. In 2002 he began training in high performance driving. He drove at Daytona , Indianapolis and Talladega in petty stock cars. He reached a top speed of 181 miles per hour at age 66. Traveling to Phoenix Arizona he trained in Racing Formula One cars. Teaching was also one of his favorite pastimes. He taught skiing in Pennsylvania, line dancing, scuba diving for the National YMCA, religion classes, Cultural Anthropology and a course in aviation at Tulane University in New Orleans. In 2003 he made his first video documentaries that were shown on local television. Beginning in 1980 he sponsored many poor children through the Christian Children Fund, Children International and the Southwest Indian Foundation. He was a communicant at St. Theclas Church In Pembroke. 

Memorial Visiting hours will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St, Kingston on Tuesday, December 22, from 4:00 to 8:00PM. A prayer service will be held Wednesday, December 23, at the Shepherd Funeral Home at 10:00AM. Interment will directly follow at the MA National Cemetery at 11:30AM.
