Obituary of Bernice A O'Neil

Bernice A. O'Neil, 73, of Kingston, passed away on July 11, 2021.

Bunny O’Neil, beloved wife of the late Stephen O’Neil passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 11th.  She is survived by her sons, Stephen of Kingston, and Michael & his wife, Brandi, of Plympton.  She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Billy & Nina O’Neil, as well as many nieces and nephews.  Bunny is also survived by her sister, Barbara Watts, and her sister-in-law, Lesta Freeman.  Bunny was the daughter of the late Valentina and Alfred Freeman, and sister of the late John H. Freeman.  She leaves many treasured friends behind.

Bunny was born in Pembroke and graduated from Silver Lake Regional High School class of 1965.  She and Steve were high school sweet hearts, married in 1966 and raised their boys in Kingston.

Over the years, Bunny worked as waitress, bank teller and various office jobs when the boys were younger.  She later went to work for many years at South Shore hospital in the patient accounts department and then Blue Cross Blue Shield prior to her retirement.

In Bunny’s younger years she enjoyed volunteering for youth baseball at the Reed, running the snack shack and watching her boys play ball.  She loved making chocolate candies for family and friends.  She hosted all family celebrations, holidays, birthdays and more.  Her favorite being Christmas, Bunny thoroughly enjoyed shopping and always found that special gift for everyone.

Bunny had a love for movies, she would often come home with several videos back in the day to relax and unwind for the weekend. She’d occasionally bring home questionable ‘family movies’ we’d refer to as Bunny classics. She loved ‘Lifetime originals’, NCIS, CSI, Greys Anatomy and lots of Western’s.   She had a love for reading, her favorite author being James Patterson and then cook books.  She loved reading through recipes and cooking up new meals for her Honey to come home to.  

Bunny’s kind heart accepted everyone as they were.  Always thinking of others and wanting to do nice things for them.  She was always present when in conversation, wanting to know every detail!   She would offer support and praise to everyone.  Her advice was offered in gentle ways.  She enjoyed sharing funny stories and laughing, an infectious laugh that could be heard across a room. 

Her greatest joys were her family.  She treasured her time spent with them and watching her grandchildren grow. Going to as many sports games as she could.  She was proud of both her boys and grandchildren, often beaming saying, ‘That’s my boy’ or ‘That’s my girl’.

One of the things Bunny missed most was driving.  She loved to just drive with Joey her poodle, the music blasting and singing away with a Dunkie decaf and being free. 

Bunny had an unwavering faith in God.  She gave out ‘Frog’s to many of us.  F.R.O.G:  Fully Rely On God.  She told us we could always talk to him.

She was a strong woman who fought her disease courageously and with grace.   She was an amazing lady who will be missed very much.

Services for Bernice will be held at 10:30am on Friday July16, 2021 at St. Josephes Church Main St. Kingston, MA.
