Skip Pickett, 1955 – 2021

Charles W Pickett  Jr. (Skip), died on July 11, 2021, at his home, surrounded by family and friends, after a determined battle with pancreatic cancer. Skip was born on June 16, 1955 to the late Frances and Charles Pickett in Quincy, Massachusetts. He graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1973.

He is survived by his wife Andrea Kershaw of Pembroke, sons Matthew Pickett of Weymouth, Mass. and Aaron Pickett, daughter-in-law Casey Pickett and grandson Shaun Charles Pickett of Kingston; siblings Cyndi and Karen Pickett of California, and Deane Pickett of Plymouth, Mass., and sister-in-law Karen M. Pickett of Plymouth. He is predeceased by brother Christopher Pickett of Plymouth.  He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

Skip worked in outside sales of HVAC equipment for F.W. Webb Co. for 25 years, as a valued representative. Because of his big personality, he built many long-lasting friendships with customers as well as co-workers.

Skip and his family spent much of their summer time at Hoyt Pond in Plymouth, which had been in the family for generations. He spent many days fishing, cruising the pond in his kayak, or just sitting on his dock outside his pop-up trailer.

The house he shared with his sons as they grew up became a neighborhood hangout, through his big heart and “open door policy”.

He was an all-star pitcher in the Hanson AA Men’s Softball League for the Down To Earth and North Star teams. Several days a week during the summer season, he and Andrea could be found at the softball field. He was also an enthusiastic golfer, horseshoe player and skier, passions he shared with his two sons as well as a close circle of friends and co-workers. He continued to ski with his family and buddies, even through his illness, going on ski trips in Vermont and New Hampshire as recently as February and March. Skip and Andrea spent some of their happiest times on his Honda Valkyrie, Andrea on the back, sometimes flanked by friends, on both short and long trips. He also fulfilled a decades-long wish to pilot a plane, thanks to a birthday gift from his wife Andrea in June.

Skip was never seen without his furry friends, his beloved dogs Nick & Summer, and in 2016, Black Lab Ben joined the family, and has been by his side since.

His tenacity and zest for life came through the strength and courage he exhibited in recent months as he stayed positive and optimistic in the face of his cancer treatments.

Visiting hours will be 4 – 8 pm on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St., Kingston, Mass.
