Obituary of William Joseph Hanlon
William Hanlon, 73, of Kingston, passed away on November 30, 2021 from Alzheimer's disease. He was the beloved husband of Kathleen Marie (Painter) Hanlon and beloved father to Aprille Leigh Hanlon and Gregory Bernard Hansen.
Bill was born on March 24, 1948 in New York, New York to the late Harry Joseph Hanlon Jr. and the late Patricia Mary (McCool) Hanlon. He worked as a customer service representative with Verizon for 15 years having retired in 2010. Bill was an avid sports fan. Bill and his wife Kathy were Putnam Club season ticket holders for the New England Revolution soccer club. They loved taking road trips where they could sightsee, attend various events and enjoy pub dining. Bill's favorite pastimes were watching all variety of sports, bowling in a Men's ten pin bowling league, gardening, bird watching, eating ice cream and taking care of his beloved family.
As a young adult, Bill was a soccer coach and referee for a youth soccer league. He graduated from Cohasset High School in 1966 and went on to graduate from Holy Cross College in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1970. He was proud of his college experience and returned several times over the years to attend football games and support the school. Bill had an insatiable sweet tooth and never met a dessert he didn't like. His favorite sweets were ice cream, apple pie, Indian pudding, Devil Dogs and cookies.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Kathleen (Painter) Hanlon, his loving daughter Aprille and sports buddy step-son Greg. He is also survived by seven siblings; Mary Louise Hanlon, Harry Joseph Hanlon III, Thomas John Hanlon, Patricia Mary (Hanlon) Caltibiano, Katharine Ann Hanlon, David Anthony Hanlon and Christine (Hanlon) White. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and great nephews and great niece.
A memorial service will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday December 3, 2021 at the Shepherd Funeral Home located at 216 Main Street, Kingston, MA 02364. Graveside services to follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Kingston MA. Donations to the Alzheimer's Association or National Audubon Society in Bill's honor is welcomed and appreciated.
