Dave was an absolutely delightful man. I felt fortunate to be able to track him down after purchasing his beloved 35 Duffy ,SWAN SONG. He had sold the boat many years prior to my acquiring it and she would now be returning to her original homeport of Green Harbor. I had heard numerous tales about this man from friends who knew him and I was determined to meet him.
Our first encounter found Dave enjoying a favorite libation at a local yacht club. He did not disappoint and regaled me with tales of his fishing exploits and times onboard SWAN SONG, and shared some great photos of such.
We became fast friends and I was glad he was enthused to know his boat was now “back home.”
Dave was disarming and witty and I felt an immediate bond. Over the years we would try to get together for lunches and kept in touch with visits and emails.
I felt honored to have Captain Dave back on his boat ..running it again with enthusiasm.
He was a consummate gentleman and a fine friend.I feel blessed that he came into my life.
I’ve shared this photo and the story of this day aboard with many friends. I like to think it meant as much to him as it did to me.
