Obituary of Lederle “Lee” Stearns Tenney
Lederle “Lee” Stearns Tenney was reunited with her husband, Charles “Mike”, on March 9, 2022. Lee was 91 and a ray of light to her family and friends.
Born in Springfield MA, Lee was the daughter of the late Scott Monteith Stearns and the late Mary Taylor (Lederle) Stearns and the sister of the late Scott M. Stearns “Scottie”. She spent her formative years in Longmeadow MA and graduated from The Masters School and Bradford Junior College.
In 1954, Lee married the love of her life, Mike, and settled in Duxbury where they raised four children. She was an active volunteer and fundraiser; Duxbury Boosters Club, Women’s Republican Club, Duxbury Youth Hockey Girls’ coach and DHS J.V. Tennis coach. She adored Pilgrim Church, and in addition to serving on every committee, she was instrumental in procuring the carillon and initiating Stephen Ministry. She founded and ran Lamps By Lee for over a decade.
Lee was supportive of all her children’s and grandchildren’s athletic endeavors and activities. She loved to laugh, was an eternal optimist and exuded joy in the simplest things; a beautiful sunset over “big beach”, chatting with her Harrison St.neighbors, mowing her lawn, singing in the Snug Harbor Chorus, picking up her mail at Snug Harbor Post Office, watching the Fourth of July Parade, going to the dump and eating hot fudge sundaes. Most of all, she loved sitting in her driveway with Mike, watching the world go by. Lee will most be remembered for her ability to make everyone she met feel loved and special.
But nothing made her happier than her four children, thirteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. All of whom she loved dearly, but who loved “Nani” even more. A 66 yearresident of Duxbury, she is survived by; her son Steve (Beth) and her daughters; Lederle (Bill), Lauren (Dave) and Sarah (Steve), her grandchildren; Alexandra (Shannon), Christopher (Daniela), Jimmy (Becca), Tori (Blake), Katie (Matt), Sarah (Ryan), Charlie (Mary), Pam, Tom, Sam, Caroline, Kevin and Lizzie, and her great grandchildren; Charlotte, Millie, Owen, Emerson, Grace, Nell and Ella.
We would like to extend our gratitude to her caregivers from Allerton House, Safe at Home and Cranberry Hospice for providing such wonderful care and compassion over the pastfew months.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
