Rose Ellen was born and raised in Plymouth, MA by her parents George and Bertha Hanelt, and was a descendant of the Brewster family of Plymouth. She was the youngest of 12 children and raised 8 of her own children. In her early adulthood, she loved decorating wedding cakes for family and friends. She had a newspaper route later in life where she would bike around town delivering papers while showing off her grandchildren to the neighborhood. She had many hobbies, including playing card games like Uno, Scat, Kings Corner, Baseball, Rummy, and Crazy Eights. She loved doing crafts for every holiday, whether it be mobiles or pinecone wreaths. She loved to do word searches and watch Westerns. She would adorn her house with tapestries, stuffed animals, mementos and blankets of her favorite animal, the Peacock. She often chanced her luck with scratch tickets and collected the state quarters and Snoopy memorabilia. Rosie shared these numerous interests and hobbies with her entire family- she would often beat them in card games, collect and gift intricate sets of quarters, and curate thoughtful gifts for every holiday. All in all, she loved spending time with her family; during parties where she was always the center of attention, or at home spoiling her grandchildren.
