Grandpa. You were to not only love and experience your grandchildren’s’ lives, but you were able to meet and spend time with your Peanut in your last days. JoJo will always be Peanut in your honor. You’ll live on in him and we’ll make sure he always knows who you are.
I’ll fondly remember our sauna nights, spending holidays with you, and all the time you spent getting us off the bus after school. You were such a huge presence in our childhoods and at all of our sporting and school events, that you’ll be missed not just by us, but also by our dear friends.
We already miss you so much. Love you Grandpa, Ashley

My memories are full of love.
He would pick us up from school everyday and stay with us until mom and dad got home.
He was there to tell me about 9/11.
He was at every sports game I had.
He cooked dinner for Friday Night dinners at his house.
He would give our friends certificates for reaching the top bench in the sauna he build in his back yard.
Christmas Eve was at his house every year.
Sunday nights, dinner was at our house and Grandpa would come over.
All my voicemails would end with “OK bye!”
And a couple before he passed, I heard I love you Brianna.
Until I see you again ❤️

Manny loved life, he gave it his all and lived it to his fullest! He loved being surrounded by family and friends and always willing
to help out when needed. The many memories are endless. He loved dancing and always had to lead. He would say “just follow me”. Sauna nights, “the cure all” and a nightcap! Casino trips and scratch tickets. Often lucky in winning, loved playing them.
Friday night dinners with some crazy meal he created, child labor house cleaning (they loved the challenge), card games and a few shots to end the night. He was always ready for a cookout or party with HIS menu! The many war stories (repeated over and over)
And his flawless advice on everything. He was so proud of his children, grandchildren and “peanut” (his nickname for his great grandson). I loved having you as my father in law.
My treasured memories of you are endless. I will forever miss you and smile when I see you.
Love Ronne

I gave Manny his nickname, “black market Manny” when he would tell war stories of Germany on Friday nights. We heard all of his stories 100 times, and I was glad to hear them 100 more times. If anybody wants to hear another war story come ask me, I’ve heard them all.
He would come over and watch the Patriots every sunday and every time the Patriots scored we would do a Mate o bich. One time the Patriots scored so many times in the first half, that we stopped doing shots because we were so loaded by half time.

Uncle Manny Cabral self proclaimed Ambassador to Germany and black marketeer. Manny you will be missed.
Memories of Phyllis and I playing cards with Uncle Manny and Aunt Agnes. Taught us how to play double deck Pinochle.
Gatherings at Manny's for cook outs, cut throat volleyball and horse shoes. The monthly trips to New Bedford to pick up 100 loaves of Portuguese bread at a wholesale price. (Always important to Manny to get a good deal) Then to another bakery for cinnamon twists and linguica rolls. First stop before picking up the bread was at CJ's Galley for the breakfast special and Manny's flirting with the waitresses. Always charming with a quick smile and story to tell.
The many family gatherings at the Union Grove club for birthday parties, anniversaries, wedding receptions brought many laughs, good food, drink and dancing.
Manny loved going to the Lake Palace to watch Mainstream play. Again a chance to flirt, drink and dance.
The nights getting a good steam in Manny's prized sauna that he was so proud of. Where he would always offer a toast in Portuguese. Mate os bich! Manny. Much love for the Cabral family and deepest condolence to all.

I have so many memories of Uncle Manny and spending wonderful times with my second cousins Mike, Philip, and especially Danny. It was always great spending overnights at Uncle Manny and Agnes's house. It was an innocent time in the early to mid 70s. I remember Uncle Manny coming home one time for a special meal of Chicken cacciatore. I think it was the first time I'd had it. In later years, I'd invite Uncle Manny to my house for the annual Labor Day Party where this foundry worker and son of a shell-fisherman interacted wonderfully with professors, musicians, FBI agents, the occasional spy, and others in the intelligentsia. He regaled them with stories of black marketing in Germany, foundry work, and the benefits of a good sauna. Most importantly, perhaps, was his bringing homemade beans with chourico or linguica. Portuguese comfort food, to be sure. Those were a staple of many parties. I shall miss him, and will think of him often.

It is hard to choose just one memory for the best grandpa to ever walk this earth. He loved to spoil his kids and grandkids more than anything in the world. We would go over there for Friday night dinners every single Friday as kids for a special Manny dinner, while the adults had their Mate o bich, or “kill the bug”. I was lucky enough to join and enjoy this tradition once I was 21! There is no cheers in my family that does not have this toast. I also remember every year on Christmas Eve grandpa would SPOIL us grandkids, one year getting every one of us a bike. I remember helping him hand out candy on Halloween and he would always count exactly how many pieces of candy he handed out to tell everyone how many trick or treaters he has this year. When we were younger we would always carve the best pumpkins with him and my Uncle Dan to be on display on his steps. Every year on Easter he would set up an Easter Egg hunt for my sisters and my cousin Lucas. There would always be a competition about who won the most money, because he would always surprise us and hide a few dollars out there. Grandpa and I used to joke that I got his luck from him because I would always do well on scratch tickets with him. I think it was just his presence that made me good at a scratch ticket. One of my favorite memories through the years would be when we used to go to breakfast just the two of us in his later years. I would pick him up and we would go to Big Y for a breakfast sandwich because at the time, you just could NOT beat the homemade griddle sandwiches for so cheap! There are so many things I will miss about my grandpa from his ability to care so deeply for me and my siblings to his generosity and putting everyone else first.
Rest in Peace, Grandpa, you will always be missed and loved.
Love your favorite grandkid,
Tara

Words can't express how I felt about my Dad, Manny. He was a very kind, gentle and thoughtful man. He was very generous with his money and would put his own needs aside to make sure everyone had a special birthday and Christmas. He loved seeing his sons, grandchildren, great-grandson, family and friends. That meant the world to him.
I was very proud to have him as my Dad! I know he is with my Mom, Agnes, the love of his life, dancing to Frank Sinatra's "Strangers In The Night" and so happy to be together again after so many years apart.
I love you Mom and Dad! Until we meet again!
Love, Danny

I will never forget the many times I spent with Manny and his family. Cookouts, birthday parties, Manny's New Year Day visit, Friday night dinner with shots, NE Patriots games and hanging out in the sauna will always be remembered. Before I was married, Stacia and I serendipitously ended up renting an apartment next door to Manny. We lived next door for 3 memorable years, and I will always be grateful for this. There was this one time when Manny asked me to help fix a leaky pipe in his basement. So, I came over and Manny had one of those small pipe torches. When I was holding the pipe, Manny subsequently lit my sweatshirt on fire. The pipe was fixed but my sweatshirt didn't survive. Good times to say the least. Manny, you will be missed. "mata os bichos" - "kills the bugs"

Manny , my neighbor and friend for more than 30 years. Hard working man and very proud of his family and grandchildren. I could set my clock by him when he left for work at the foundry at exactly 6.48 every morning to be on time for work at 7.00. I don't recall him ever taking a day off in 60 years.
Our greatest times spent in the sauna every Wednesday for 40 years. Manny, Roger, Mike, myself and occasionally others. Talked politics and solved all the worlds problems.
Rest in peace,

What can I say about Manny? Manny was a kind hearted, fun loving kinda guy. A devoted father and a proud, doting grandfather.
We shared many a moment while I cared for him and the stories that were told; e.g. His military life, his years at the foundry, and his commitment, dedication and role model for his boys.
I enjoyed each and everyone of those stories just by seeing the pride and joy that it brought him as he told it. He loved his sons and love love love his grandchildren. He was proud of all their accomplishments.
They are a few things that will always be a pleasant memory of him….playing cards (but it was a task keeping your eyes on him)....lol lol. His wisdom, wit, banter, his brilliant evasive tactics…lol lol and hanging out with him on Monday’s.
So sleep on in peace Manny until we meet again so long….

My sympathies go out to Mike, Phil and Danny. Growing up in the neighborhood and spending significant time at the Cabral’s house in my teenage years, Manny and Agnes were two of my favorite people. I feel fortunate that I drove down Maple Avenue about a year ago, saw Manny sitting on the porch and stopped to talk about the good old days for over an hour. He hadn’t seen me in over 20 years, immediately knew who I was and the stories just kept flowing along with the laughs. His memory was better than mine! Now I know that this “driveby” was meant to be for me.
Rest in peace my friend, the pleasure was all mine.

Michael Cabral. The shark story. Myself my cousin and dad went deep sea fishing. A 17 ft great white shark circling our boat. My cousin and I reeled up our lines. Dad started reeling his up and the shark disappeared then out of no where. He jumped out of water just like jaws. Swung around in mid air grabbed small cod dad caught. And went right down to bottom he towed us around for an hour. Then finally broke the line. My cousin had to to bathroom but was afraid. To go over she fearing shark would bite it off. Dad thanks for the great fishing stories. Love always Mike

200 mackerel and the rest haddock and cod. Then took most of the fish to woods fish market to sell.
You’re forever loved.
