Obituary of Vera O. Simmons
Vera Odessa Simmons died on May 2, 2023. A beloved daughter of Delores M. Simmons and the late Elmore M. Simmons, Sr, she was born on November 19, 1961 in Frankfurt, Germany.
Her resolve to live was so strong that we thought for sure that she would even outlive all of us. Everyone who met and conversed with her fell for her immediately. She was blunt, vivacious, witty and alluringly charming. She had a wonderful distinct laugh that was real, genial, and in some cases, heard throughout whatever establishment she was in! She was definitely the cool sister; the one who wasn't a part of the in crowd, she WAS the in crowd.
One of Vera’s greatest joys was being a mother to her two sons. She was more than their mother; she was their best friend and confidant. The bond and deep connection she shared with them is impossible to describe with words. There are many fond memories with her playing cribbage and dominoes (which she usually won), and trips to the Faire. She was beyond excited to become a grandmother, and doted on her babies like Nonnie’s do.
She was an excellent cook who made awesome seafood chowder, stuffed cabbage, quick breads, and Shepherd's pie. She adored the beach, being out in the sun, laughing and having fun. She was loyal, generous, and more than willing to help out anyone who needed her.
Vera is survived by her sons, Derek Simmons and Anthony Simmons, her grandchildren Liam, Violet, and Isaac, her mother, Delores Simmons, her siblings, Denise Jackson, Elmore Simmons, Jr., Sheila Simmons, Deborah Simmons and Sharon Millner. She also leaves behind her nieces, grandnieces, nephews, grandnephews, as well as several cousins, her aunt and uncle and a host of friends from all over. Vera joins her sister, Cheryl Simmons, and her father, Elmore M. Simmons Sr., who preceded her in death. She will be missed immensely by all who love and adore her.
Visiting hours will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 116 Main St, Carver on Monday, May 8th, from 4:00 to 8:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to the American Kidney Fund at www.kidneyfund.org
