Last week we said goodbye to my husband Ken's brother, my brother-in-law. The following poem, Gone from Sight by Henry Van Dyke captures hope and remembrance of an avid family man, sailor and friend...
I am standing on the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength, and I will stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says: 'There! She's gone.' Gone where? Gone from my sight-that is all.
She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side, and just as able to bear her load of living freight to the place of destination. Her diminished size is in me, not her; and just the moment when someone at my side says, 'There! She's gone,' there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout, 'There she comes!'
You will be missed, Rob!

Don't cry because he's gone.
Smile because he was here.

Bob grew up on Burgess Ave in Westwood, MA. I grew up with Bob, I lived on the next street over on Highview Street. We hung out all the time, going to Bubbling Brook, Bergsons, the high school dances every Saturday nights. Bob was our senior Vice President for 1967. He did track in high school, a pole vaulter. He
built a pole vault pit in the back yard. We played baseball together, his dad and my dad were our coaches on our Babe Ruth. We painted a house in Wrentham, MA in 1966 [we didn’t have a clue what we were doing!]. His sister Nancy would drive us back and forth. It took us all summer to paint that house! 3 coats of paint and we only made $150! He was a good
Friend and I will miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with you Nancy and your family.
