Obituary of Hughie P. Gavin
Radclyffe Hughie Patrick Gavin passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 15, 2023. Hughie, as he was known to his family and friends, had a servant’s heart and loved to work with his hands. He was born September 7, 1947, in Curling, Newfoundland to Thomas and Lucy (Tulk) Gavin.
He grew up in northern Ontario until 1964 when his father died. He then moved to the U.S. with his mother and four siblings.
In 1972 he moved to Denver, Colorado where he met his future wife Sandy, to whom he was married for 48 years. In May of 1975, he met Jesus and never looked back. He attended Western Bible College receiving an Associate Degree in Biblical Studies in 1983.
Hughie moved back to Massachusetts with his wife and two daughters in the summer of 1983.
Two sons joined their family after their move to New England. Hughie was very proud of his family. He worked as a carpenter/contractor until illness forced his retirement in early 2023.
He enjoyed spending time with his kids, taking road trips, camping, bike riding, and fishing. He made numerous short term mission trips, was known for his love of “oldies” and music trivia as well as his sense of humor.
Hughie is preceded in death by his father Thomas Gavin, his sister Susan Shean, his brother Christopher Gavin, and his mother Lucy, his brother-in-law Steve Sessoms and brother-in-law William Hodges; is survived by his wife, Sandra (Wilkerson); daughter Gwendolyn and her husband Michael Benoit; his daughter, Christina Winter, her husband Shawn, and their daughter Gavin; his son James and his wife Julia; his son Mark and his fiancé Georgianne Wilton; his sister Eva Hodges; his sister Donna Larson and her husband Chris; his sister-in-law Patricia Gavin; and his brother-in-law Bill Shean. He also left behind many nieces, nephews and close friends.
A Celebration of Life service is planned for November 18, 2023, 10:30 A.M. at First Baptist Church of Duxbury located at 2 Tremont St., Duxbury, MA.
