Obituary of Rosemary MacQuarrie

Rosemary MacQuarrie (nee Bennett) passed away suddenly on December 13th, 2023 at the age of 79. She was predeceased by her husband of fifty plus years, Doug, and is survived by her two sons, Scott of Naples, FL and Jon of Duxbury and his wife Jennifer, as well as her grandchildren, Henry, Lilah, Prestin and Owen. Also survived by her siblings, Carole Bennett, Helen Gerty (husband Joe), and Buster Bennett (wife Wanda) and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her brothers John Bennett, Tom Bennett, Charlie Bennett and Billy Bennett.

Born August 30th, 1944 and raised in Roslindale as one of eight siblings, after high school at Notre Dame Academy, Rosemary graduated from Boston University and then became a teacher in the Boston Public Schools until 1970 when she and Doug moved to Duxbury to raise their family on Old Farm Road.  She later returned to teaching at St. Gregory’s in Dorchester and also became a substitute teacher for many years in the Duxbury and Marshfield school systems.  She spent the past couple of years dearly missing her husband Doug, but was in great hands with her wonderful and compassionate friends in the Duxbury community and beyond.

Rosemary was a lifelong avid sports fan of all of the Boston teams, as well she always kept current on Duxbury sports teams staring in the 1970’s.  She adored her grandchildren, and nieces and nephews and loved to be a part of their lives.  She was an avid reader and book club enthusiast and cherished her weekly outings with friends for lunches and shopping ventures.

Calling Hours for Rosemary will be held on Wednesday, December 20th from 4 to 7pm at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St., KINGSTON, MA.  A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, December 21st at 10 AM at the Holy Family Church in Duxbury followed by a Burial at the Mayflower Cemetery in Duxbury.
